Job Description

I.  Job Summary

The First Watch Restaurant Data Engineer is responsible for building and managing First Watch ETL pipelines. The ideal candidate will apply proven technical expertise with designing, developing, and maintaining business intelligence solutions. The positions will partner with the First Watch business to translate business needs to technical specifications that enable easier consumption of data sets in the data warehouse.

II.  Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

 The essential functions of this job description are not all-inclusive of this position's duties and responsibilities.  Reliable and dependable attendance is required.

  •  Develop and monitor automated ETL pipelines. (Azure Data Factory - ADF)
  • Onboard new data sets (i.e. Data Acquisition) to the Data Warehouse. (Azure Data Factory and possibly other tools/techniques)
  • Transform existing data sets in the Data Warehouse to make it easier for query customers to use data sets. (ADF, Azure SQL)
  • Develop and maintain data security and permissions solutions for data warehouse objects and database user access controls. (Azure SQL)
  • Develop and maintain data warehouse and metadata, data catalog, and user documentation for internal business customers.
  • Assist with researching new technologies and evaluating how/if they can fit in at First Watch.

III.  Leadership Responsibilities and Reporting

The ETL Developer reports to the Director of Enterprise Systems and provides direct support to this position and the broader Finance team/organization. This position has no direct reports.

I.  Qualifications

  •  Bachelor's degree BS/BA in Computer Science, Engineering, or relevant field
  • Experience with writing SQL.
  • Experience with writing processes to extract, transform and load data.
  • Understanding of database management systems (RDBMS), online analytical processing (OLAP), Online Transaction Processing (OLTP), and ETL (Extract, transform, load) techniques/concepts.
  • Familiarity with BI technologies (e.g. Azure Data Factory, Microsoft Power BI)
  • Proven abilities to take the initiative and be innovative
  • Analytical mind with a problem-solving aptitude

III.  Additional Physical Requirements

  •  Must be able to frequently stand, walk, view computer monitors, give & receive oral communication, bend, squat, reach above shoulder level, and discern color. Must be able to occasionally sit, drive, type, and make fine discriminations in sound
  • Must be able to do simple repetitive grasping, fine manipulation, and pushing & pulling on a frequent basis
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to travel on rare occasions, as needed, for company business
  • Must be flexible and willing to work a varied schedule that could include nights, weekends, and holidays as dictated by the needs of the business
