Director of Operations

Location: Smyrna

Overview

The Director of Operations is responsible for supporting the mission, vision and values of First Watch through all that he/she does in their role every day. The DO’s primary purpose is to develop General Managers and restaurant management teams to build and increase sales over the previous year and improve profitability, while ensuring employee and guest satisfaction, without compromising the integrity or You First culture of the concept. The Director of Operations is responsible for the success of all First Watch operations within their span of control (5-8 direct reports and 200-300 employees).

 


Responsibilities

  • Leads operational activities for a group of First Watch Restaurants by performing the following in accordance with Company guidelines regarding management development, sales, and profitability, planning and customer and employee relations
  • Trains, coaches and develops General Managers and Operations Managers, through timely performance and observation feedback and evaluations
  • Follows up on training of MIT's/CAFE’s and hourly employees. Works closely with the Training General Manager to monitor progress
  • Ensures development of Operations Managers within compliance of the FW management development programs
  • Through effective manpower planning executes the continuous development of the management team and ensures timely and cost effective recruitment of restaurant level management and their training within First Watch
  • Ensures the maintenance of a safe and harassment free workplace in all restaurants
  • Takes quick and responsible action in solving problems and able to uses reason when dealing with individual or staff performance based issues to include personality conflicts
  • Develops for prior approval and then meets or exceeds the area’s budget, including capital investments, General and Administrative expenses
  • Promotes First Watch outside the restaurant

 


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent – concentration in food & beverage, business, marketing or management is preferred
  • Five to seven years of progressive leadership experience in multi unit restaurant industry operations
  • Proven track record of achieving results and building & maintaining successful teams
  • Passion for providing excellent service and quality
  • Ability to partner and build relationships while demonstrating leadership and integrity and promoting team success
  • Extensive knowledge of the principles, procedures, and best practices in the industry

Technical Accounting Manager

Location: Bradenton

Overview

The Technical Accounting Manager is a key financial professional responsible for ensuring compliance with accounting standards, implementing accounting policies, and providing technical expertise on complex accounting issues. This role involves working closely with cross-functional teams, external auditors, and senior management to maintain accurate financial reporting and uphold the integrity of financial information.

Technical Accounting Expertise

  • Stay abreast of evolving accounting standards (e.g., GAAP) and assess their impact on the organization
  • Research, interpret, and implement new accounting pronouncements or changes in regulations
  • Provide guidance on technical accounting issues,  collaborate with other departments to address challenges and document memos on technical / complex accounting issues/transactions (e.g. ASC 805, ASC 842, etc)
  • Train accounting staff on technical accounting issues

Financial Reporting

  • Support the preparation of financial statements in compliance with applicable accounting standards
  • Review financial statement disclosures to ensure transparency and compliance with US GAAP

Policy Development and Implementation

  • Develop and implement accounting policies to align with industry standards and US GAAP
  • Work with various departments to communicate and educate teams on accounting policies and procedures
  • Ensure all staff on the accounting team are aware of accounting policy updates for compliance
  • Monitor and assess the effectiveness of existing policies and recommend updates as needed

Internal Controls

  • Establish and maintain a strong system of internal controls to safeguard financial information
  • Collaborate with internal audit to identify and address control deficiencies
  • Implement best practices to enhance the effectiveness of internal controls

Collaboration and Communication

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, legal, and operations, to address accounting-related matters
  • Communicate complex accounting issues in a clear and concise manner to non-financial stakeholders
  • Work closely with external auditors during financial audits and reviews

Advisory Role

  • Provide guidance on  transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and other business initiatives to ensure compliance with accounting standards
  • Evaluate the financial impact of proposed transactions and provide recommendations to senior management

 


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA certification preferred
  • Extensive experience (typically 7+ years) in technical accounting roles
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment
  • Experience with ERP systems and proficiency in Microsoft Excel

Lease Administration Analyst

Location: Bradenton

Overview

The Lease Administration Analyst will be responsible for interpreting and analyzing information for leases, amendments, assignments, and other legal documents. The ideal candidate has the demonstrated ability to read and interpret a commercial lease and to focus on analysis of monthly financial statements. This includes the reconciling of general ledger accounts and the evaluation of all monetary aspects of the Lease, including base rent, taxes, insurance, Common Area Maintenance and utilities.

  • Audit and reconcile Landlord ledgers/invoices and validate we are paying in accordance with the lease agreement
  • Liaise between Landlords and internal teams to rectify discrepancies due to escrow changes or unapplied / misapplied payments, utilities, etc.
  • Maintain lease database system (Pro Lease) with current triple net escrows.
  • Create and maintain weekly and monthly rent report for reoccurring and non-reoccurring payments, escrow adjustments, reconciliations, rent commencements, rent/escrow shortfalls, sales tax, etc.
  • Prepare notice letters and calculate billing statements for lease violations such as failure to pay Tenant Improvement Allowance and delayed delivery rent credits.

 


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Finance or Accounting preferred; high school diploma required
  • 3-5 years of full-time experience in accounting in a medium to large organization; lease accounting a plus
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP
  • Ability to handle multiple, concurrent assignments
  • Experience within the retail, restaurant, or similar industry that includes multiple locations in various states
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required
  • Public Accounting experience preferred

Tax Manager

Location: Bradenton

Overview

The Tax Manager is responsible for managing the implementation of tax policies and procedures in each tax jurisdiction in which the company operates while remaining in compliance with tax laws and accounting policies. This position will have primary responsibility for the managing of all tax related functions, as well as interface with outsourced vendor providing tax compliance services.

  • Manage the accurate and timely preparation and filing of federal, state, and local sales and use tax returns as well as all other areas of tax compliance in adherence with applicable tax laws.
  • Work closely with our third-party tax advisors to manage the accounting for corporate income taxes throughout the year, including gathering all appropriate information and performing a detailed review of year-end provisions prepared by third-party tax advisors and in house preparation of quarterly provisions with the third-party tax advisors providing consultation services.
  • Prepare quarterly and review year-end financial statement tax disclosures in accordance with US GAAP (ASC 740) for financial reporting.
  • Lead, manage, and develop Tax staff member.
  • Review reconciliations and analysis prepared by tax staff member.
  • Ensure compliance with appropriate internal controls for income taxes.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the Company’s business and proactively work alongside Director of Tax Accounting and outsourced vendor on tax consequences of proposed business flow changes.
  • Liaison with Management, Director of Tax Accounting, Tax staff, and Accounting staff on any tax issues.
  • Manage all federal, state, and local tax audits (e.g., income tax, sales and use tax).
  • Work collaboratively with other corporate functions (e.g., internal audit, treasury, finance, licensing, legal, payroll).
  • Manage the retention of tax records and other required reports.
  • Maintain current knowledge of tax laws, updates/revisions, and inform Director of Tax Accounting of issues affecting First Watch.

 


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in Accounting. Master’s Degree in Taxation preferred
  • CPA preferred
  • Six + years of related experience with at least 3 years working in a national public accounting firm and/or in a public corporation
  • At least 2 years of manager experience
  • Strong experience in ASC 740 and SEC reporting required
  • Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Tax regulations
  • Expert-level ability with MS Excel
  • Experience working with third party service providers
  • Experience with ERP systems; Great Plains is preferred

Quality Assurance Manager

Location: Bradenton

Overview

The Quality Assurance Manager supports the supply management process to ensure compliance to all First Watch product quality assurance standards. This role helps provide maintenance and continuous improvement of programs such as food safety, specifications, product evaluations and ingredient monitoring. This role assists with maintaining the nutrition and allergen data, claims, and messaging across all platforms. This position will help create SOPs and documents related to food traceability initiatives. This person works cross-functionally with Culinary, Supply Chain, Legal, Marketing, Customer Care, Operations, and all supply partners.

Quality Assurance:

  • Works within certain databases to ensure the accuracy of product and supplier quality assurance information that is risk-based to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Builds relationships with vendors to support food safety and quality assurance standards.
  • Conducts initial onboarding vetting or troubleshooting audits of manufacturing facilities as requested.
  • Assists in maintaining the supplier quality assurance tracking systems and all documentation.
  • Receives and investigates product quality complaints related to food manufacturers and distributors.
  • Assists the crisis management team during any product withdrawal or recall events.
  • Participate in and provide input for the on-going review of key performance indicators or other sources of quality data to ensure that performance is monitored, and the corrective actions are taken as required.
  • Participate actively in regular business reviews with key supply chain partners, ensuring all product quality, food safety, and customer service-related issues are addressed. Manage continuous improvement activities with key partners related to product quality, sanitation, and food safety.
  • Ensure supplier adherence to First Watch product specifications.
  • Assist with approving product substitutions due to product shortages or disruption in the supply chain.
  • Work closely with risk management team on customer incident claims related to suppliers.

Nutrition and Allergens - FDA Menu Labeling Law Compliance:

  • Maintain the integrity and accuracy of nutrition and allergen data for all menu boards by adhering to standardized analysis processes.
  • Partner with third party nutrition provider to ensure new ingredients and menu items are accurate.
  • Ensure nutrition and allergen information is consistent with nutrition, allergen, and menu labeling laws at the federal and local level.
  • Develop quality metrics for nutrition and allergen analysis.
  • Continuously improve the First Watch nutrition and allergen program.
  • Lead the identification of lifestyle diet menu options.

FSMA 204 – FDA Food Traceability Rule Compliance:

  • Analyze traceability data and trends to drive compliance in conjunction with all key stakeholders.
  • Create SOPs and documents related to traceability initiatives.
  • Work with vendors for system improvement, verification, and data utilization to support QAFS, Supply Chain, Legal, Operations, and other departmental use cases.

Animal Welfare and Sustainability

  • Liaise with vendors to gather relevant data and reports.
  • Ensure vendors maintain compliance with First Watch standards as they evolve.
  • Develop and report key metrics for animal welfare and sustainability initiatives.

Additional Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responds to Customer Care inquiries of nutrition, ingredient, and product information as needed.
  • Provide administrative support for the QAFS department during any incidents or investigations.
  • Develops and maintains an effective working relationship with appropriate regulatory agencies, industry associations and academia to be able to gain current knowledge and to be in the forefront of emerging trends.

 


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in food science, animal science, nutrition, or related discipline required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of quality assurance experience working in the food processing industry.
  • Restaurant experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of food manufacturing and understanding of chemical, physical, nutritional, and microbiological aspects of food products.
  • Significant knowledge of food regulations, including USDA (HACCP) and FDA (FSMA).
  • Current working knowledge of QA principles such as SOP’s, SSOP’s, Nutrition, Allergens, R&D, Lab Testing, Process Control, CAPA, RCA, GFSI and Product Traceability.
  • Excellent proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook required.
  • Nutrition and allergen analysis experience preferred.
  • HACCP, PCQI and ServSafe (or equivalent) certification preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to travel (10 – 30%).

Senior Accountant

Location: Bradenton

Overview

The Senior Accountant will support a variety of accounting functions with a primary focus on  lease accounting, sales, use and property taxes across the organization -- including numerous state and local jurisdictions - and assisting with account reconciliations and month-end close to support the integrity of financial statements in accordance with US GAAP. This position will also provide technical accounting support and assist the team in preparing for the Company’s external audits.
